Here’s list of TikTok challenges that will make time vanish.
So you’ve posted your homemade lattes on Instagram, along with the make-shift home office situation, the screenshots of all your Zoom calls with friends, the live concerts you’re streaming, all the pet content available and you’ve notified your followers that you too, have devoured Tiger King in one sitting. As quarantine content hits a dry patch, it seems that we have no option but to turn to TikTok to keep us entertained and more importantly, socially relevant.
In case you don’t know, TikTok is the vertical video phenomenon that has proliferated every social media channel available. It’s heaving with intimidating videos of teens doing summersaults and other new-age magic we dare not attempt to even name. However, as the days in isolation continue, you might find that the slacks you currently live in are the perfect attire for a bit of TikTok action. Here are some challenges to try out, ranked from easy to stuntman level.
1. Flip The Switch challenge
@nbcsnl𝗙𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵.♬ Nonstop – Drake
You’ve probably seen this challenge on familiar channels like Instagram and Twitter. The idea is to find a mirror, find a partner and bust out some semi-choreographed moves to the song “Nonstop” by Drake. When the lyrics hit “I just flipped the switch”, you literally flip off the lights, switch outfits and places, switch the lights back on and continue with your dance. Even US Senator Elizabeth Warren is doing it.
2. Finger challenge
@bietheskaมือปีศาจ ##fingerchallenge♬ Lalala – İlkan Gunuc Remix – danilla_carvalho
There are plenty of finger challenges that involve a complex routine of finger tutting, which we’ll get to later. But somewhere along the line, TikTok added visual cues in the form of emoji hands. Perhaps so you wouldn’t have to trawl the internet for tutorials or ask the nearest 5-year-old to school you. As you can see above, all you need to do it follow the emoji sequence in time to the Danila Carvalho remix of “Lalala” by İlkan Gunuc.
3. Finger Thingy challenge
@themarshmellofamilyI no This is a Old Trend But love this🤙##fingerdance ##fingerthingy ##fingertutting ##fingerchallenge♬ Finger Dance – taeri__taeri
The #FingerThingy is now considered old, but it’s While the name leaves a lot to be desired, it also aptly describes how baffling this new territory might be for those already out of high school. Unlike the other finger challenge, this one requires a little more coordination and memory and you may need to follow a tutorial like this one.
4. Plank challenge
@bea.martinezhaced a mi padre famoso!! ##fyp ##parati♬ #PlankChallenge – chisa2122
The challenge consists of two people in planking parallel to each other, then simultaneously dropping to their elbows and back up again, doing a couple of leg movements, high-fiving with the outer arms, then changing places by having one person roll underneath as the other jumps over and then back again but the other way around, all the to the beat of song. It’s a decent workout and parents are even getting involved.
5. Foot Shake challenge
@nathanpilandWhen the ##FootShake isn’t on point 😱 @dyvon @e_brzy @lincolnhoppe @demiskinner @ajgonzalez101 ##comedy♬ original sound – Nathanpiland
The Foot Shake Dance is enjoying a second wave of popularity thanks to the outbreak. It found new relevance as an alternative means of greeting friends along with the elbow bump. While there is no evidence to back it up, it is probably a lot safer than a standard handshake. You can learn the moves here.
6. Flying Plank challenge
@ashleynoceraLearned how to fly today! 😀 ##plankchallenge ##flying ##foryou ##fypage ##magic ##AfterMyCoffee ##fy♬ #PlankChallenge – chisa2122
This is more of a variation on the #plankchallenge than it’s own official challenge. Here you use transitions to make it appear as though you’re flying in midair. Start in the plank position, thrust yourself up, make your move, stop recording and repeat. If you don’t have all that much faith in your physical strength, it’s best to try this over a soft-landing platform, like your bed.
7. Hit Every Beat challenge to “U Can’t Touch This” by MC Hammer
@thehypehousewe lit @lilhuddy @nickaustinn @avani♬ #hiteverybeat – lulbabyynelii
This is one of the more achievable challenges. Think of this as a fast-paced macarena with a foundational TikTok dance move called the “woah” thrown in. The hard part is doing in time to the beats, hence the name.
8. The Kardashian challenge
@dovecameronwhy did this take me ages♬ original sound – kardashvideos
After years of catfights and throwing shade, Keeping Up with The Kardashians has found life beyond reality tv and memes. You can now use the priceless exchanges between Kourtney, Kris and co. with your own creative flair. While this isn’t an official challenge, it will take up a ton of free time and it’s pretty entertaining.

@lizzoIM OBSESSED 🤦🏾♀️ ##fyp ##renegade♬ Lottery – K Camp
TikTok is dominated by dance challenges, but this is undoubtedly one of the biggest ones out there, to the point that TikTok stars are now performing them at NBA games. Jalaiah S. Harmon is the 14-year-old girl that created it. However, it’s been popularised by Charli d’Amelio who has over 43 million followers on the platform. It’s a fast-paced routine and you may need a tutorial to get going, but once you’ll feel accomplished.
