Making the perfect martini is a difficult task. Everyone has their own preference, whether it is James Bond-inspired and shaken, not stirred, or the infamous espresso martinis that fuel many long nights. Luckily, SF is home to three bars that make some of the best martinis in the United States, at least according to Esquire.
Esquire compiled the best 50 martinis in the United States, and three SF bars and restaurants were listed. Check out below which ones made the cut.
Aphotic
The swanky seafood restaurant’s signature martini is fittingly reminiscent of the ocean. The cocktail is made with seaweed gin and other distilled spirits. The restaurant specializes in multi-course meals, up to 13 courses. Aphotic is located at 816 Folsom St. and accepts parties between 2 and 6 people.
The Progress
The Progress’ signature martini is full of savory, smokey flavor, according to Esquire. The Progress is from the same team of iconic State Bird Provisions, serving American cuisine in a family-style fashion. The restaurant has even been awarded a coveted Michelin Star, so it’s no surprise they can nail a great martini. The Progress is located at 1525 Fillmore St. and requires reservations.
Martuni’s
Martuni’s martinis are legendary for a reason. The generous pours of the classic drink paired with the lively bar’s entertainment is a recipe for a good night. If you prefer atmosphere and fun live performances with your martini, Martuni’s is the place for you. The beloved piano bar is located at 4 Valencia St. and is open until 2 am nightly.
