Block party season is far from over! San Francisco’s Dogpatch neighborhood is hosting a big one at Pier 70, an old WWII shipbuilding site-turned-arts neighborhood, on Friday, July 10, from 4-9 pm.
The Dogpatch block party is part of the broader Future of Us Festival, a new 8-day citywide program with more than 50 events marking the United States’ 250th anniversary. Programming includes immersive art exhibitions, dance events, civic talks, and more.
Like all upcoming Future of Us events, the July 10th party is open to everyone at no cost, although nonprofit organizer The Plenary, Co. suggests a $10 donation.
Future of Us: Dogpatch Block Party!
The centerpiece of the afternoon is a chalk art gallery stretching across the street, with at least 12 artists filling the pavement with their visions of an ideal neighborhood. Open spots will be available for anyone who wants to contribute their own art.
Beyond the chalk installations, the event will include a Dogpatch photo booth, a Meet Your Neighbors Lounge with structured conversation prompts, and pop-up art galleries and artisan vendors inside Building 12 at Pier 70.
Food trucks featuring Bay Area and local favorites will be on-site, and the next-door brewery, Standard Deviant, will be open with views of the Bay. Live music is scheduled throughout the evening.
The block party is also the launch point for Patchwork, described as the first annual neighborhood crawl for people who live and work in Dogpatch. Starting at 2pm, participants can earn free patches and a tote bag by visiting spots across the neighborhood.
A second concurrent event, Neighborhood Futures, will run at The Pearl — a 10-minute walk from Pier 70 — featuring more than 100 original artworks, talks from local civic leaders, and a rooftop DJ. Tickets and registration for Neighborhood Futures are available separately.
The block party makes for a good opportunity to check out the progress at Pier 70, an old WWII shipbuilding site that is currently being transformed into a 28-acre park and office space on the waterfront.
