Downtown San Francisco is bringing the party this Pride Month with Drag Me Downtown, an epic series of free pop-up drag performances. Get ready for a lineup of entertaining performers throughout the month.
The events are free, but if you pre-register for the event with a $10 donation, you’ll receive exclusive merch for the events. The proceeds from pre-registration benefit local trans-centric nonprofit Trans Thrive.
The energetic performances will take place from 5-7 pm on Friday evenings in June at different venues around Downtown San Francisco. Here’s the schedule:
- June 6: One Market Restaurant (1 Market St.)
- June 13: 101 California Plaza in partnership with Pabu Izakaya (101 California St.)
- June 20: Institute of Contemporary Art SF ( 345 Montgomery St.)
- June 27: Drag Me to Front St. (Front Street between California and Sacramento Streets)
This year, the series will host an exciting party in the Front Street Entertainment zone on June 27. The free block party will feature a drag show from 5-7 pm and a dance party from 7 to 8 pm.
“Being a part of Drag Me Downtown since the beginning and seeing it grow and shine in its third year is something I am truly so proud of. San Francisco has always been a safe haven for the queer community that has always been here,” said Bobby Friday, local drag entertainer and host of Drag Me Downtown. “When our community is under attack and trying to be silenced, we push back by living louder, loving harder, and being more fabulous than ever. The Downtown SF Partnership and the City of San Francisco give us a platform to express ourselves, live authentically, and spread more joy and love. Love is what Pride and Drag is all about—it’s what makes San Francisco one of the most FABULOUS and FIERCE cities in the world!”
Ever since the pandemic, the Downtown SF Partnership has worked to produce a series of activations to encourage San Franciscans to spend more time in the Financial District outside of “work hours.” One of the most popular past events was Let’s Glow SF, a massive holiday projection mapping display in December.
