Tucked just off Market Street in SF, sits a historic, regal building dating back to 1892. Once a bank, the beautiful building has been transformed into a unique event, and they’ve recently launched a series of rooftop parties for the summer.
The Hibernia has begun hosting a series of summer parties on its scenic rooftop, featuring sets by local DJs. So far, they’ve already thrown several successful events, with two more day parties planned in the next month. The next event is scheduled for this Sunday, June 22nd, titled NO SHADE — A Queen Out Rooftop Day Party from 3 to 8 pm. The event is in partnership with local queer collective Queen Out in honor of Pride Month, with eight performers scheduled for the 5-hour event.
Plus, the historic venue will host another rooftop party on July 4, called Sky High Rooftop: 4th of July at The Hibernia. The party will run from 4 to 9 pm, so you’ll still have plenty of time to see the fireworks later in the night. The party will feature sets from Emanate, Mikle, Mama Rainbow, and more.
From historic bank to event venue
The Hibernia was originally built as a bank in 1892 and was one of the few buildings in the Downtown Area to survive the devastating 1906 earthquake. The building was operated as a bank until the early 1990s and was briefly used by the San Francisco Police Department. Then, it was left vacant for many years, until it was bought by a real estate company in 2008 and restored extensively. Now, the building retains much of its original charm and is used as an event venue, hosting weddings, corporate events, and more. The rooftop parties are a unique addition, as they tend to host private events rather than ticketed, public parties.
