One of San Francisco’s most beloved holiday traditions is returning for another year. Next week, San Franciscans can expect to see Macy’s iconic window displays in Union Square, featuring the most adorable special guests. In collaboration with the SF SPCA, the holiday displays will feature kittens and puppies that are available for adoption.

The display will open next weekend, on Friday, November 21, and run through December 31. The puppies and kittens will be in the windows from 12 to 5 pm on Wednesdays through Sundays, and you can even tune in from a live cam if you can’t make it to the store in person. The event isn’t just cute, it’s a great way for animals to get adopted and raise awareness for the SF SPCA.
The adorable event comes as many San Franciscans were unsure whether the department store would be open for the 2025 holiday season, after the retailer announced in 2023 that over 100 locations would close over the next three years. The store recently announced that it was working with a local real estate development firm to reimagine the space and that the Union Square location would remain open through the holidays.
Macy’s in San Francisco is well known for its holiday decorations, especially with its location on the edge of Union Square. The square fully embraces the holiday spirit every year, with a massive tree and even a temporary ice skating rink. Union Square hosts numerous holiday events every year, including themed nights at the ice rink, a winter walk that features food trucks and beer gardens, and the Bill Graham Menorah every Hanukkah.
The SF SPCA holiday window displays will debut at Macy’s next week, on Friday, November 21, 2025. You can learn more about the SF SPCA here.
