North Beach is a historic neighborhood packed with restaurants and bars. It’s not unusual to see the streets bustling on weekends. Aside from the nightlife, the neighborhood also hosts many festivals and family-friendly community events, and they’ve added a new one to the calendar for 2025.
The North Beach Coffee and Pastry Festival will debut this weekend, Saturday, September 27, from 9 am to 3 pm. The festival will celebrate the neighborhood’s longstanding cafe culture and history with coffee. North Beach is home to the cafe that served the first espresso on the West Coast, among many other popular cafes that line the blocks.

The celebration will feature samplings from Bay Area roasters and cafes, along with plenty of indulgent pastries from local bakeries. You can also participate in educational seminars, pastry decorating, or watch demonstrations from coffee experts sharing brewing techniques. Like most North Beach events, you can expect live music and local vendors. The festival is organized by the North Beach Business Association, which represents numerous local businesses and organizes night markets and other community events that include neighborhood businesses throughout the year.
This weekend’s festival is just one of numerous upcoming events in the neighborhood. In October, check out the Halloween Festival and Night Market on October 25 and a holiday market on December 5. We also recommend stopping by the monthly art crawl every first Friday to see what local artists are creating. While you’re in the area, we recommend walking over to Chinatown to explore the annual Autumn Moon Festival, which features multiple performances and food vendors.
The event is family-friendly, with activities for all ages, and entry is free. You can learn more about the North Beach Coffee and Pastry Festival here. The festival is on Grant Ave between Vallejo and Filbert Streets.
