Labor Day weekend is shaping up to be a good one! At 7:30pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (Sept 3-5), Salesforce Park will host Portal, an unforgettable free dance performance by RAWdance. Visitors can walk through the 75-minute spectacle and observe six Bay Area dancers’ physical storytelling against a backdrop of surreal lighting, text, video, and a layered soundscore.
The iconic rooftop garden at Salesforce Park will transform into a “multimedia ecosystem” to investigate the connections between “skyscrapers and gardens, migration and stagnation, and belonging and isolation after an unprecedented year of collective challenge.” Visitors can enjoy the performance across the entire park, following the dancers through their journey.
Portal is produced by Co-Artistic Director Katerina Wong and mixed media artist Ephraim Colbert. The six dancers performing are Erin Yen, ArVejon Jones, Claire Fisher, Juliann Witt, Jhia Jackson, and Nick Wagner.
Attendees don’t need to reserve a spot ahead of time; simply show up and enjoy the spectacle! Performances will occur Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (Sept 3-5) at 7:30pm at Salesforce Park. RAWdance recommends arriving early and taking the escalator or elevator entrances on 1st Street between Mission and Howard. The performance will begin in the park’s main plaza.
