A report ranking the best cities in the world recently placed San Francisco in the top 15 and now it looks like SF has made another impressive ranking. A new study from WalletHub has analyzed the “most fun” cities in the United States, and San Francisco has made the top 10. SF was ranked #7 overall, following Austin, Texas.
While it’s hard to compare places in terms of fun, considering it’s such a subjective idea, the list created the ranking by scoring cities out of 100 possible points. The study looked at 182 cities in the United States, including the 150 largest. Then, they analyzed three key areas: cost, entertainment and recreation, and nightlife and parties. Then, they analyzed 65 weighted metrics within those categories to give cities a score out of 100. Nightlife and entertainment both accounted for 40 points, and the cost was the remaining 20. The metrics analyzed encompassed a wide amount of factors, from the number of bowling alleys to the average price of beer.
Notably, San Francisco was tied for the top spot in most restaurants, dance clubs, and festivals per capita. SF also outranked both New York City and Los Angeles on the list. Check out the top 10 “most fun” cities according to the study:
- Las Vegas
- Orlando
- Miami,
- Atlanta
- New Orleans
- Austin
- San Francisco
- Chicago
- Houston
- New York
Unsurprisingly, Las Vegas was crowned the top city due to its high number of restaurants, clubs, entertainment options, and average costs. Miami and New Orleans are also unsurprisingly high on the list, with their many clubs and bars. Unfortunately, San Francisco fell in ranking from last year, when it was ranked #5 overall, with New Orleans and Austin rising. Still, we think San Francisco is pretty fun, and we’re in good company on the list. San Francisco has some pretty iconic events, from everyone’s favorite wacky foot race, Bay to Breakers, to major music festivals like Portola and Outside Lands. Our bar scene is thriving, and clubs regularly host major DJs that draw crowds of happy dancers.
