San Francisco has no shortage of dramatic backdrops, but Illuminate’s annual laser Pride flag installation, titled WELCOME, is hard to beat.
During the light show on June 27th, drone photographer Shreenivasan Manievannan was filming the multicolored display when he captured an unexpectedly sweet moment high above the city on Twin Peaks.
His footage shows a couple walking up the side of the mountain to stand and embrace directly in the path of the gigantic rainbow laser beam, perfectly lined up against the dramatic background.
The photographer, who posts as @shreeniclix on Instagram, shared the video and launched an open call to try and identify the mystery couple.
“While shooting the laser show, I caught this couple completely by accident, mid-beam, and it’s honestly one of my favorite frames from the night,” he wrote.
“I’d love to get this to them — if you know who they are (or you’re reading this and it’s you 👀), please reach out or tag them below!”
Illuminate is known for transforming the Bay Area’s landscape with ambitious public art that uses light, technology, and recognizable local landmarks. Its WELCOME installation comes highly anticipated every year since launching in 2022, stretching over four miles into the night sky. Other projects include the recently relaunched Bay Bridge lights, as well as the Golden Mile and free concerts in Golden Gate Park.
