The Bill Graham Menorah Project is gearing up for its 47th annual giant menorah lighting and display! A 25-foot menorah will glow over Union Square every night of Hanukkah, from December 18-25.
On the first night (Dec. 18), you can enjoy fun activities, food, music and more for “Bill Graham Menorah Day” from 2-6pm. This celebration will accompany the first lighting ceremony at 5pm. Enjoy a variety of kids’ crafts and shows, plus performances from Jerry’s Kosher Deli, Saul Kaye, and Ari Lesser.
Each of the subsequent lighting ceremonies will include a gathering and music at 4:30pm followed by the ceremony at 5pm. Exceptions are the 6th lighting ceremony on December 23rd, which will be early at 2:30pm due to Shabbat; and the 7th lighting ceremony on December 24th, which will be late at 7:30pm due to Shabbat.
This enormous menorah first went up in Union Square in 1975, making it the first large public menorah and celebration outside of Israel. That first lighting drew over 1,000 people to the event, and since then it’s inspired thousands of other large menorah displays around the world.
Make sure to check out the Bill Graham Menorah Project at Union Square from December 18-25 in San Francisco.
