Chotto Matte is a vibrant Japanese-Peruvian restaurant with locations in London, Toronto and Miami.
San Franciscans know that rooftop dining isn’t particularly common around these parts, so we’re thrilled to hear that a new rooftop restaurant is coming to Union Square! The current site of the Macy’s men’s department store will soon be home to Chotto Matte, an exciting Nikkei restaurant with incredible views of the city high above Union Square.
Blatteis & Schnur, Inc. are spearheading the project development for SF’s hottest new rooftop restaurant and bar. Construction is in its final phases for a 14,000-square-foot space, 3,000 of which are part of an open-air wraparound deck. The restaurant is slated to open in 2022 according to a press release.
Chotto Matte serves innovative Nikkei cuisine, which is a mix of Japanese and Peruvian food resulting from the influence of Japanese culture in Peru. The restaurant’s website states that “the particular roots of this fusion lie in the importance both traditions give to fresh fish, as Japanese sushi, encouraged by Peru’s thriving fishing industry, mixes perfectly with the ceviche which is at the centre of many Peruvian menus.” The restaurant has 3 thriving locations in London, Toronto, and Miami. In addition to San Francisco, they plan to open locations in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and Doha, Qatar.
The rest of the building at 100 Stockton St will also see improvements such as a new, modern facade and eight levels of mixed-used space. The 250,000 square-foot space is designed with the future in mind, to create “new experiences that engage, educate, and facilitate community,” according to Blatteis & Schur.
Keep an eye on this exciting project at 100 Stockton St – we’ll have a new rooftop destination in our midst soon enough!
